Principles and Applications of Publishing on the Internet

Working in teams to develop a Web site, students are introduced to major issues in electronic publishing including information and interface design, emerging production and business models, and developing and managing non-linear content and digital assets. Technical overviews include networking, selecting an Internet Service Provider, and the role of databases in Internet delivery. Practical information is offered on planning, rates and pricing, and legal issues. Throughout, students will receive hands-on instruction in the fundamentals of the hypertext markup language, image creation and editing, as well as typography, color theory, animation, and layout as they relate to Web development. Lectures and hands-on labs are augmented by online tutorials and readings, allowing individual pursuit of special areas of interest including audio and video, javascript, advance html, and Shockwave/Flash, among others
