From traditional methods to digital technology, this course examines the workflow involved in the production of magazines. It emphasizes selection of a printer, including quality, capabilities, capacity, scheduling, distribution, and services. Presents the production process from editorial content, design, color separations and prepress through printing and binding. Other topics include: desktop publishing, design and illustration considerations, printing and color reproduction process, image assembly and platemaking, lithographic presswork, binding, and finishing. Site visit to demonstrate desktop design and digital prepress. 1.5 CEU. Offered in fall only.
