Skilled magazine copyeditors are increasingly in demand today. This course provides an introduction to copyediting procedures for consumer, trade, and specialty magazines, and newsletters. Skills in grammar and word usage, punctuation, spelling, style, fact checking, reference books, and writing headlines and captions are taught and developed through assignments. The special conditions of an electronic editing environment are explored. A discussion of the vocabulary of printing and layout, and an over view of jobs available is provided. Extensive assignments. Stu dents must be fluent in English and proficient in grammar. 2.5 CEU.
