Trade and General Book Publishing

The different components and market segments of trade book publishing are presented with a special focus on fiction/non- fiction, general reference, religious, and children's book publishing. The formats of hardcover, paperback, and mass paperback with their related distribution and sales channels are investigated. Case studies will define the role of agents, packagers, subsidiary and international rights. Students will explore the responsiblities and functions of the trade book editor as publisher within a major multinational organization, an imprint of a large house, as well as as independent medium or small publishing house.
