An understanding of the financial issues in book publishing is increasingly essential today for everyone in the business. Using the profit and loss statement for an individual title as a building block, this basic course examines the economic issues that influence decisions about acquisitions, pricing, inventory, and marketing expenditures. The course includes an introduction to cash flow and the impact of cash flow and other considerations on publishing strategies such as: Shall we publish ourselves or license the rights? When should we launch a paperback edition of our successful hardcover book? Assignments. Offered in fall only. 2.0 CEU.
