A detailed survey of how hardcover and paperbound books are manufactured. From manuscript to bound book, all aspects of production and manufacturing are explored through lectures, demonstrations, and plant visits. The course is for beginning production and design personnel, as well as editors, writers, artists, and publishing executives who need to learn the manufacturing process. Topics include: specifications; budgets; schedules; design; composition; illustration; paper; printing pro cesses; binding; and the role of the computer in the production process. Current methods and new developments are emphasized. Guest speakers. 2.5 CEU.
