Topics include: understanding the world of Wall Street, its authors, and audience; job description and responsibilities of the financial editor; key financial editorial standards and how they differ from those of mainstream publishing; and reading a research report on a specific stock. Students learn how to edit research reports on a specific stock, sector, or macroeconomic strategy; and how to summarize a full research report into a stock note. Students explore the financial editing environment, the workload, and pace as well as the editing responsibilities in an electronic setting. They learn how to break into the field for full-time and part-time work. Prerequisite: Copyediting and Proofreading Fundamentals/X59.9120 or program adviser approval. Enrollment is limited. 1.5 CEU. Offered in fall only.
