MASTERS OF SCIENCE DEGREE PROGRAM
ADMISSIONS
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
Admission to SCPS's Master of Science degree programs is open to all qualified men and women with credentials from an accredited institution that are equivalent to an American undergraduate degree. Certified English translations must accompany documents in languages other than English. No specific undergraduate course prerequisites or fields of concentration are required.
A number of factors are considered in evaluating applications. These include the applicant's academic achievement; the scores from one of the standard graduate admissions tests, the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), or other standardized graduate admissions tests: the nature and extent of previous work experience; and information obtained from letters of recommendation and the applicant's own personal statement.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
The graduate programs expect all students to demonstrate the ability to understand and communicate in English, both orally and in written form. To evaluate proficiency, SCPS requires international applicants to submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A bulletin containing information and an application form is available at most U.S. Consulates and Information Service offices. If no local information is available, contact:
TOEFL Services P.O. Box 6151 Princeton, NJ 08541-615 U.S.A. E-mail:toefl@ets.org
All admitted applicants are required to take the diagnostic examination of NYU's American Language Institute upon their arrival. Depending on the results, students may be required to take noncredit English classes before beginning or while taking academic courses. Such English course work will entail additional expense and extend the time normally required to complete the degree.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
American Language Institute (ALI) provides English instruction at all levels to speakers of other languages. ALI helps non-native speakers improve and expand their English skills, often at the same time they are taking regular academic coursework at NYU.
VISA INFORMATION
All non-resident accepted students for master's programs should obtain an F-1 Visa. In order to be eligible a student must have a letter of acceptance from the SCPS Graduate Admissions Office, and complete an Application of Eligibility (AFOCE) which is sent with the acceptance package. Further details about the F-1 visa can be found at the US State Department Visa Services page.
The completed AFOCE form should be returned to the:
NYU Office of International Students and Scholars 561 LaGuardia Place - 1st floor New York, NY 10003 U.S.A. Tel: (212) 998-4720
